Comfort Texas Activities
A destination all its own offers you antique shopping, German heritage, great food, Guadalupe river, and small town hospitality. As you walk down town take notice of bricks in the sidewalk engraved with names of the founding families. History lives on as you stroll the streets of comfort and read the memorial on High Street dedicated to the free thinkers who settled in the area in the mid 19th century or visit the
"Treue der Union" monument: Dedicated in 1866, this is the only monument to the Union cause south of the Mason Dixon line and one of only six sites in the nation which may fly the American flag at half mast in perpetuity. It marks the final resting place of men from Comfort and the surrounding area killed in the "Battle of the
Nueces" in 1862. Opposed to slavery and secession, the German settlers of the area suffered greatly during the Civil War. Attempting to leave the state, the group was surprised and killed by Confederate raiders and their bodies recovered after the war ended.
Comfort Cellars Winery offers tastings daily.

The Texas Hill Country is nearly paradise for
those who love the outdoors. Opportunities for hiking, rock
climbing, road cycling, mountain biking, fishing, birding, golf,
horseback riding and hunting bring folks from across Texas and the
U.S. to experience the rugged beauty and therapeutic peace of the
Texas Hill Country first hand.
Ten state parks and natural areas are located in
the region around Fredericksburg. Whether it’s watching the
evening emergence during the summer of over one million Mexican
free-tail bats at the Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area or
rappelling down the sheer face of a granite boulder at Enchanted
Rock State Natural Area or viewing colorful fall foliage at Lost
Maples State Natural Area, the Texas Hill Country is sure to cure
those uptight, urban blues.
Comfort’s central location in the Texas Hill
Country makes a great “home camp.” What could be nicer than a
exhilarating day of hiking or biking and then a relaxing evening
in Comfort with some Hill Country wine, a tantalizing meal and
some live Texas music?
If all this isn't enough to do, the Buckhorn golf course offers 18 holes of golf for your enjoyment. Located near Interstate 10 in Comfort.
